Sea Kings win, but now fun starts

CORONA DEL MAR — The Corona del Mar High boys’ tennis team dominated in doubles to easily win its first round CIF Southern Section Division I match against visiting Dos Pueblos Thursday.
Now things become interesting. That’s because of the 23rd annual Anaheim Junior Tournament. CdM junior Fabian Matthews, who dropped just one game while winning three sets in singles, will play on Saturday at noon in the Anaheim tournament. He was also supposed to play in the morning, too, but Dana Hills Coach Dana Bozeman called CdM Coach Tim Mang to help reschedule Matthews’ morning match.
Matthews will now play David Masciorini, who’s also on the Dana Hills team, today at CdM.
“That’s some of the things coaches have to do because of CIF,” Mang said in a phone interview. “I have to figure out where to put [Matthews] in the lineup. I have to reconfigure it so that it doesn’t matter if we miss him in that first go-round.”
The Sea Kings will face San Clemente in the second round Saturday, at a site to be determined by a coin flip today. San Clemente defeated Sunny Hills, 78-74 in game after a 9-9 tie.
