CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP:Broadway resurfacing to begin

Caltrans is expected to begin the Broadway street resurfacing project Thursday, City Manager Ken Frank announced.

The project extends from Coast Highway to Forest Avenue and is expected to take five months to complete “” including a nighttime work schedule and partial closure of the street during the day.

The project involves replacing badly broken portions of pavement, grinding down the concrete surface up to two inches and placing a rubberized asphalt overlay on top of the concrete.

The rubberized asphalt will reduce traffic noise and provide a smother surface, Frank said.

During construction there will be traffic delays, parking restrictions on Broadway and some nighttime noise. The working hours have been set to minimize traffic impacts while allowing the work to progress as quickly as possible, Frank said.

No work will be allowed during peak traffic hours of 6 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 11 p.m. The working hours will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The contractor may close the street entirely during the night working hours and will be required to maintain one lane in each direction during the daytime working hours.
