Kelly art at bank gallery

As part of the Festival of Arts’ 75th anniversary celebration, exhibitors will be honored with public viewings of their works on the third floor at Wells Fargo Bank, 260 Ocean Ave., Laguna Beach.

The current Festival of Arts Alumni Series features the works of Patrick Kelly through Nov. 24.

“The impetus is to showcase Festival alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the organization,” said Pat Sparkuhl, curator of this series.

Kelly, an acrylic painter known for vibrant colors and an extensive body of work, exhibited at the festival for more than 40 consecutive years.

“My works cover the gamut, from street fairs to old buildings to palm trees to abstract impressions,” Kelly said. “But my greatest satisfaction comes from painting abstract shapes with a hard-edged look.”

Originally from England and a graduate of the Hammersmith School of Art, Kelly immigrated to America at the age of 18. Currently the curator of the permanent collection for the Festival of Arts, Kelly has also served as a board member, as membership director and lived in Laguna Beach from 1961 through 2002.

The gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Sawdust Festival has an exhibit on the main floor of the building, while the Community Art Project (CAP) also has an exhibit on the second level. Admission is free.
