HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY COUNCIL PREVIEW
Here are a few items the council will consider Monday:
POTENTIAL TRANSIT EXTENSIONS
In a Sept. 18 study session, city staff presented a potential transit extension linking the beach and the Disneyland resort area in Anaheim. Council members plan to approve a study by city staff of the potential transit link project between Anaheim and Huntington Beach.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Several council members were enthusiastic about commissioning a study about linking the city with the Anaheim Metrolink station. The council will authorize City Administrator Penny Culbreth-Graft to negotiate and execute agreements with the Orange County Transportation Authority and cities such as Garden Grove and Westminster under the “Go Local” grant funding program.
SENIOR CENTER FUNDS
This consent calendar item is a follow-up to Mayor Dave Sullivan’s City Council/ Redevelopment agency item from the Sept. 18 council meeting. Council members will vote on approving a budget amendment to allow the anticipated $25 million in funds from Makar Properties, developer of the Pacific City project, into the Park Acquisition and Development Fund. About $22 million of those park funds will be set aside for the development of a new senior center.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The item is likely to be approved, with Councilwomen Jill Hardy and Debbie Cook voting no. The last council meeting saw heated debate about diverting park funds earmarked for improving parks and acquiring park land toward building a new senior center.
PUBLIC PARKING IMPROVEMENTS
The city is planning to adopt a resolution for the purchase and installation of an electronic parking space counter and two reader boards at the Main Promenade public parking structure.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Council members have been exploring ways to ease traffic and increase parking in the downtown area. Purchase of this equipment will help visitors using the Main Promenade public parking structure maximize the space and save time.
