27: Newport Beach City Council candidates will be on the hot seat again as the West Newport Beach Assn. holds a forum from 7 to 9 p.m. The first hour will cover districts 1, 3 and 4, and the second hour will be devoted to districts 5, 6 and 7. The forum will be in the City Council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd., and will be televised.

29: The Costa Mesa Senior Center will hold a City Council candidates’ forum at 12:45 p.m. at 695 W. 19th St.

OCTOBER3: The Orange County’s Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse will hold a reception and luncheon with guest state Sen. Tom McClintock, who is running for lieutenant governor. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon at the Center Club, 650 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.
