UC Irvine senior Brad Evans has been named the Big West Player of the Week, the third straight week the honor has gone to an Anteaters player.
That wasn’t the only news from the UCI men’s soccer team. It also recently earned the first national rankings in the program’s history. The Anteaters are ranked No. 23 by Soccer America and No. 25 by College Soccer News.
As for Evans, his recognition came after UCI’s 4-0 win over UC Riverside.
He scored two goals in the win over the Highlanders. He is tied for second for the UCI record in career goals with 26.
Evans is seventh in Big West history in goals. He was also named to the National Team of the Week by Top Drawer, a soccer website.
It was Evans’ third time overall that he has been honored by the Big West and his first time this season.
Anthony Hamilton and Matt Murphy were also honored in consecutive weeks before Evans.
Murphy leads the Big West Conference in points and goals, with 14 and six, respectively. Hamilton is second on the team with 10 points. Evans is third with eight.
