Advanced enough for pizza

Last year, more than 50 Estancia High School students passed the Advanced Placement tests in Spanish and French. On Wednesday, the school honored them with a pizza luncheon in the foreign language wing, with Newport-Mesa Unified School District Supt. Jeffrey Hubbard, school board President David Brooks and other administrators present.
In all, about 85% of Estancia students who took Advanced Placement tests last year were successful, said teacher Christine Payne.
During the luncheon, a number of administrators made short comments, including newly hired Asst. Principal Phil D’Agostino.
“This is community,” he told the students gathered at one point. “This is what it means.”
