COOKIE DOUGH

We first saw the Torti Calico kitten Cookie Dough and her much smaller rescue friend, Liquorish, on Saturday. The rescuer told us that the pair was 7 weeks old, but our scale and their visual presence told us otherwise.

Cookie Dough was substantially bigger than Liquorish. And tiny, black, one-pound Liquorish had skin that folded over every bone, and her head hung low.

We weren’t prepared with a caregiver for these two, and had hoped that these cute, tiny kittens would entice the Fashion Island crowd to help. This strategy backfired when the two arrived flea-ridden and emaciated. We placed a “Help Needed” sign on their cage and asked everyone we could for help. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, a wonderful family signed up to take the distressed pair.

Cookie Dough immediately responded to the intensive in-home care, while Liquorish was force-fed. Sadly, Liquorish passed away on Tuesday morning.
