OBITUARY

CLIFFORD R. CAVE

Clifford R. Cave, who served as head librarian for the Laguna Beach Library from 1964 to 1981, died Aug. 8 of a heart attack at the age of 91.

Cave was born in 1915 in Berkeley and grew up in Pasadena. A graduate of Pomona College, he later received a master’s degree in theology from Union Seminary in New York, and a master’s degree in library science from USC.

After combat service in the South Pacific, he served in the Army of Occupation of Japan. He had taught history at Adelphi College on Long Island before moving to Laguna Beach in the early 1960s.

In 1964, he became head librarian at the Laguna Beach Library, a position he held until 1981. He was instrumental in the construction of the current library.

In 1992, he married Louise Lund of San Diego. The couple lived in Point Loma.

Cave died from a fatal heart attack while returning from a vacation at Lake Tahoe.

He is survived by his wife; seven stepchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and cousins in La Jolla, Riverside and Oakland. He was buried at Melrose Abbey.
