Bamboo Bar still undefeated

The last remaining undefeated team in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Department summer 16-inch Slow Pitch Softball League, Bamboo Bar and Grill, reserved a spot in the upcoming championship playoffs after defeating the FD Mavericks, 17-6, in Monday League action at Riddle Field.

Ryan Neptune was the top hitter for Bamboo Bar and Grill. His two home runs, single and five RBI led an attack that also included two home runs and four RBI from Ethan Damato, a grand slam by Wyatt Strateman and a double and two singles by lead-off hitter David Strong.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Bamboo Bar and Grill, which opened up a two-game lead on the other Monday League members.

John Kuzmic delivered a grand slam and single to lead the FD Mavericks.

In other Monday League action:

C-Dawgs 7, Rotary 2

The C-Dawgs climbed back into playoff contention by winning for the second time in three starts by beating a Rotary team that had won four straight.

Frank Ranieri smashed three home runs in three trips to the plate and accounted for five RBI for the C-Dawgs. Jim Wogulis had two of the five singles Rotary managed in the game.

DUI Fighters 6, Forty Majority 0

A four-run first inning propelled DUI Fighters past Forty Majority.

Chris Matthews singled twice for the DUI Fighters and Lyle Hutson had two hits for Forty Majority.

In Tuesday League action:

Used Cars 3, Island Shade 2

A sacrifice fly by Nate Paerels in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Pat Toohey for the winning run as league- leading Used Cars got past Island Shade.

Mike Cooper and Kevin Mohay each hit solo home runs and Toohey and Andrew Smith each singled twice for Used Cars, which won for the fourth time in five games and moved one-half game within qualifying for the playoffs.

Dave McCollum threw a six-hitter for Used Cars, which also had five singles and a home run hit by Brad Upton.

Team Viagra 11, Good, Bad and Ugly 4

Kevin Rowland went four for five with a home run and double and lead-off hitter Cam Hamil singled three times as defending league champion Team Viagra moved into sole possession of second place.

Ganahl Lumber 8, Sandpiper 8

The two teams combined for 21 hits, 11 going to Sandpiper, and fought to a tie. Mica Brown hit a home run and single for Sandpiper.

In Wednesday League action:

Hennessey’s 7, Artists 2

Three home runs led to six runs as Hennessey’s defeated the Artists and maintained a one-half game lead on defending league champion Mesa Verde Partners.

Nate Pivaroff hit a solo home run in the second inning, Mike McKenzie a two-run homer in the third and Ryan Neptune smacked a three-run shot in the sixth.

Marco Johnson singled twice for the Artists.

Mesa Verde Partners 16, Sac Johnson 8

Matt Kucero drove in six runs behind three home runs and Dave Meggison scored four runs on three home runs, as Mesa Verde Partners won for the sixth time in seven outings.

Jeff Greenough and Danny Lane each homered and singled for the winners. Brett Guerbie and Brian Voytora homered for Sac Johnson.

Puswatrkylegs 10, Sportsworld 3

Puswatrkylegs used three walks and consecutive singles by Ethan Damato, Kyle Johnson and Trevor Lyle to produce seven runs in the fourth inning and pull away from Sportsworld.

In Thursday League action:

Hamstrings 10, Hotwings 7

The Hamstrings kept their grip on third-place in the standings by downing the Hotwings.

Alexander Carter hit a pair of home runs and singled for three RBI, Vic Feller homered and singled for two more runs and Joel Harris and Rob Malone each hit solo home runs for the Hamstrings. Trigg Garner homered for the Hotwings.

Red Runs 7, Brownstars 5

A four-run fifth inning allowed the Red Runs to get past the Brownstars.

Andrew Brodrich and Allen Krist each homered and singled for the Red Runs. Tim Rebich hit a home run and single with three RBI for the Brownstars.

Arbitech 7, Team Hobie 7

Mike McKenzie and Torin Pavia each homered and singled as defending league champion Arbitech played to its second tie of the summer season.

Brandon Jessie went three for four for Team Hobie.
