CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP: Music in the Mosaics concert today
- Share via
The Laguna Community Concert Band will present a mini free concert from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Fred Lang Park Mosaic Bowl, 21540 Wesley Dr. The concert will consist of ensemble presentations by the band’s woodwind trio, flute ensemble, saxophone combo and jazz set.
Each group will play 15 minutes of music — from classical to jazz — within the mosaic-decorated alcoves of the bowl.
In 2004, the Arts Commission commissioned artists to work with community members to cover the cement walls in the Lang Park Bowl with pieces of ceramics and mosaics.
The band performance is funded by the band’s grant from the lodging establishments of Laguna Beach, and visitors from nearby hotels are encouraged to walk the bowl and enjoy “Music in the Mosaics.”

Miller Garden plants to be given away
Friends of the Hortense Miller Garden will be at the Farmer’s Market in Laguna Beach from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday giving plants away to good homes.
A recent large donation of seeds has produced a bumper crop of hot weather annuals: basil, parsley and, especially, marigolds. A monetary donation of any size to the Friends group will be appreciated.
Also on hand will be board members who have visited Miller recently. They can answer any questions about how she is doing in her new home.
For more information, call Joanne Sutch at (949) 497-5887 or Chloe Echternacht at (949) 497-9746.
Sewer line collapse closes beach restrooms
Last week, the sewer line for the restroom at south Main Beach failed, closing the restroom for two days, City Manager Ken Frank announced. That restroom is scheduled to be improved once the north Main Beach facility is renovated under the city’s 10-year capital improvement plan.
In other sewer news, the city has completed an electrical upgrade project to 16 wastewater lift stations that are not already equipped with backup generators, Frank said.
The upgrade involved installing electrical outlets that can be connected to either of the city’s two emergency generators.
“This will greatly improve our field staff’s response and recovery time to the lift stations impacted during power outages,” Frank said.
‘Rise & Shine’ concert to benefit local woman
A benefit concert will be held at the Laguna School of Music from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Monday to help pay medical expenses for Sunny Elizabeth Taylor.
Brett Dennen, Nick Hernandez, Jason Feddy and other Laguna musicians will perform, and all proceeds will go to the Rise & Shine Benefit Fund to help with Taylor’s medical costs.
A silent auction and raffle will also take place at the school on Laguna Canyon Road.
Donation, $10; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Attendees are asked to park at the Act V parking lot at 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, where shuttles will be waiting to take them to the location.
