BREAKING NEWS:

A body found washed ashore Friday in Huntington Beach may be that of an Anaheim man who has been missing since Sunday, authorities said.

The body was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. on the beach near Goldenwest Street by an unidentified person who contacted police, Huntington Beach police Lt. Craig Junginger said. The body was clothed in swim trunks and appeared to have been in the water for a few days, he said.

Authorities believe the body may be that of Manuel Tenorio, who has been missing since 4:50 p.m. Sunday, said Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Michael Baumgartner.

The Orange County coroner’s office is trying to match fingerprints from the body with those on a Mexican identification card provided by Tenorio’s family, Baumgartner said.

The case is complicated because the man was “reported missing Sunday, and his friends reported him missing but they used the wrong name,” said Cullen Ellingburgh with the coroner’s office. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the man’s age, identity and cause of death.
