Lions install new officers

The Harbor Mesa Lions recently held their annual installation of new officers at the home of the current president, Carol Van Holt. Former Costa Mesa Mayor Arlene Schafer was installed as president. Serving with Schafer are Carol Van Holt, immediate past president; Gina Stansbury and Joan Parks, vice presidents; Barbara Hayward, secretary; Sandi Scheafer, treasurer; Carol Van Holt, bulletin editor; Carol Proctor, tail twister and Lions tamer; and directors Maureen Coffey, Bernice Ellis, Jennifer Kelder, Eunice Thomason, Janie Harris, Sue Seager, Lynn Seaholm, Cathy Waters and Myrta Sparkes. The new officers will take their positions in July.
EXCHANGE CLUB MEMBERSHIP GROWS
With the induction of Vic Caliva, Ted Davis, Bob Kirtland, Jim Watson and Jerry Nininger, the roster of the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor has grown to 95 members, said past president Bill Barrington. Rick Harris, past president, inducted the new members, sponsored by Wally Ziglar, Bob Wood and Bill Bechtel at the June 8 luncheon meeting held at the Nautical Museum. The club will install new officers and directors on Mon., June 26 at a dinner at the Five Crowns in Corona del Mar, said Duncan Forgey, outgoing president.
EXCHANGE DISTRICT CONVENTION
Exchange Club members from Newport-Mesa will join with hundreds of Exchangites from around California and Nevada at their annual District Convention from June 22 through 24 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio. Informative sessions will be held on good club practices in community service, and club awards will be presented.
IRRELEVANT WEEK ARRIVAL PARTY
The celebration of the underdog, Kevin McMahan, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound wide receiver from the University of Maine who was selected No. 255 by the Oakland Raiders and was the final pick in this year’s NFL College Draft, ends Monday. McMahan will be hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce at the Arrival Party and Press Conference at Newport Dunes.
The 5 p.m. event costs $15 per person and will be held on the beach at Newport Dunes, so dress appropriately. The fee includes food provided by local restaurants, live entertainment and a no-host bar.

COSTA MESA ROTARY CLUB TO RECEIVE CHARTER
The Rotary Club of Costa Mesa will receive its official charter at a banquet on July 7 being held at the Costa Mesa Hilton Hotel, said Kim DeBroux, past president of the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa, the sponsoring club. A no-host reception will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Chartering festivities with many Rotary Clubs from District 5320 presenting gifts to the new club will begin at 8 p.m.
The current and many past district governors are expected to be in attendance, along with Rotarians from throughout Orange County and southern Los Angeles County.
Charter members and their classifications include Susanne Aragon, funeral director; Joan Archibald, nursery; Dale Bixler, printer; Janet Bowling, senior health insurance; Terri Breer, business attorney; Scott Calvert, promotional products; Don Gregg, commercial real estate; Dan Hanley, mortgage broker; Kathryn Haze, human services; Susan Jamie, jeweler; Greg Joslyn, insurance; Michael Kerry, commercial real estate development; Ray London, education; Robert Nanney, education; Ricardo Ramirez, notary public; Judy Rusoff, sales trainer; Alex Saroci, financial planning; Al Tetreault, customer service; Larry Thomas, banking; and Ken Ynzunza, banking retail. Soon-to-be members include Lisa Westhafer and Shirley Duckworth.
