CIF next for Laguna spikers

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team ended its regular season Tuesday with a 27-25, 16-25, 17-25, 21-25 Pacific Coast League loss at fourth-ranked Tesoro.
Ben Hester had 11 kills and eight aces, Roy McDennon had 10 kills, Xander Olson had nine kills and Clay Knapp 43 assists for the Breakers
In a previous league match, Laguna swept visiting University, 25-10, 31-29, 25-16. Olson and Shawn Merz each had 11 kills.
The Breakers, who have been hampered by injuries throughout the season, finished tied for third-place in league with a 7-5 record.
They will be the No. 4 seed from the league for next week’s playoffs. Pairings for the Division II playoff bracket will be announced Monday.
The postseason playoffs begin Wednesday.
The PCL, a seven-team league, is guaranteed four postseason berths.
Laguna will be participating in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs for the 33rd consecutive year.
In lower-level volleyball, Laguna’s junior varsity team shared the PCL title with Corona del Mar for a second straight year, and at the frosh-soph level, Laguna won its second consecutive outright league championship.
Today at 6 p.m., Laguna’s varsity will take on its alumni in an annual showdown match at Dugger Gymnasium.
