Donor limits increase

As of Jan. 1, the individual limit for donations to city candidates was raised to $330, a $20 increase.
A city ordinance provides for adjustments to the limit on even-numbered years. Changes reflect the consumer price index.
The adjustment provision was adopted after Mayor Pro Tem Steven Dicterow aborted his 2003 proposal to increase the city’s donation limit to anywhere from $750 to $1,500. Public opinion prompted him to reconsider his proposal, which had been opposed by Councilwoman Toni Iseman and the Laguna Beach unit of the League of Women Voters of California. The city’s ordinance is scheduled to be revisited by the council in 2008.
