Taking the long road
The key to making long putts or getting close is distance control. To gauge the distance, view the situation from a side angle instead of just behind the ball. This will help you know how much power to use, while looking behind the ball will help gauge the break.
But the most important aspect is figuring out the distance. On downhill putts, pick a target short of the hole, while on uphill putts, pick a target past the hole.dpt-practicetee04.IMGGraphicInfo0G1QJL18200605040G1QJL18No Captiondpt-practicetee04.IMG0PhotoInfo0G1QJL1620060504i421lykfdpt.04-golftip-BPhotoInfo6L1QJPGD20060504iyprdancDAILY PILOT(LA)Pelican Hill’s Glenn Deck suggests scouting long putts from the side to get a better read on distance and power.
