Girls ready to tip off at Ocean View

Twelve teams are coming to town for varsity tournament. Two days after 13 prep boys’ basketball teams finish play at the Tournament of Champions at Ocean View High, 12 girls’ teams will be ushered into the school’s gymnasium to compete at the first Ocean View Girls’ Varsity Tournament.

Teams from throughout the CIF-Southern Section will contend for the tournament title, with play beginning at 4 p.m. Monday.

The teams will be split into four pools. Games continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Dec. 22, with consolation and championship round finals slated for Dec. 23.

The tournament final will tip off at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 23.

“We’re looking forward to the tournament,” Ocean View girls’ coach Jim Harris said.

Harris, along with his son, Jimmy, serve as co-head coaches of the Ocean View boys’ basketball team, which finishes play Saturday in the Tournament of Championship at the school’s gymnasium.

“I hop from one, right to the other,” Harris said. “We feel we have a lot of strong teams in the tournament and a lot of good matchups.”

Ocean View, Bolsa Grande and Western are in Pool A. Katella. University and Duarte make up Pool B. El Modena, Dominguez and Tesoro compose Pool C. JSerra, Northwood and Rim of the World are in Pool D.

Below is a listing of game’s schedule for the first three days of the tournament:

Monday

4 p.m.: Ocean View vs. Bolsa Grande

5:20 p.m.: Katella vs. University

6:45 p.m.: El Modena vs. Dominguez

8:15 p.m.: J.Serra vs. Northwood

Tuesday

4 p.m.: University vs. Duarte

5:20 p.m.: Bolsa Grande vs. Western

6:45 p.m.: Dominguez vs. Tesoro

8:15 p.m.: Northwood vs. Rim of the World

Wednesday

4 p.m.: Rim of the World vs. J.Serra

5:20 p.m.: El Modena vs. Tesoro

6:45 p.m.: Ocean View vs. Western

8:15 p.m.: Duarte vs. Katella
