Police plan DUI check
Newport Beach police officers will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday on Jamboree Road and Santa Barbara Drive.
The checkpoint will be clearly marked, and cars will be pre-selected to pass through the check lanes, where police will look for any signs that the driver is intoxicated.
Drivers will also be given a brochure on drunk driving.
Checkpoints can reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road and serve as an educational deterrent. The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
In addition to the checkpoint, police will be conducting additional DUI patrols through Sunday.
