Community Clinic names new development director

Elaine Smith, formerly of South Coast Rep, to oversee fundraising, public relations and marketing at the local medical clinic.Laguna Beach Community Clinic has named Elaine Smith of Laguna Woods to the new position of director of development.

As senior development officer, she will provide fundraising consultation to the board of directors and executive staff, oversee organizational fundraising and donor development strategy, and also coordinate marketing and public relations for the clinic.

“Elaine brings a valuable level of experience and expertise to the clinic. Her contribution to our team heralds a new age for the clinic and the patients we serve,” said Dr. Tom Bent, the clinic’s chief operating officer.

Smith is the former director of individual giving for South Coast Repertory, where she led the annual campaign for the theater’s donor circles.

She earned a certificate in fundraising from UC Irvine in 1999.

In 1996, Smith helped establish the Laguna Beach Film Festival.

From 1999 to 2002, she served at Laguna Playhouse as corporate development manager and acting director of development.
