Code Red girls team clinches first in division

Back-to-back wins last weekend by the South Coast Soccer Club’s Code Red girls’ under-14 was enough to clinch first place in the Silver Central Division.

Code Red 3, Rangers 0

A goal by Kirsten Marony, set up by an assist from Kiley Godfrey-Cravens in the first minute, set Code Red on its way to victory.

Godfrey-Cravens got into the scoring act when she poked a pass by Alison Hensley into the corner of the net. Godfrey-Cravens picked up where second assist of the match and returned the favor to Hensley in the second half, by setting up a goal by Hensley.

The Code Red defense got the shutout despite not having goalie Tiffany Van Tress and defender Erica Cabibbo for the match.

Ashley Haprov and Kelly Mitsumori shared goalie duties and combined for the shutout and were aided by the play of defenders Jodi Hwang, Lauren Hanson, Rebecca Cruz and Maylette Roland.

Code Red 3, Wolfpack 1

The victory allowed Code Red, which played without injured starting forward Erika Longoria, to avenge a 1-0 loss it suffered to Wolfpack earlier in the season.

Andrea Ecker scored off an assist from Alison Hensley mid-way through the first period to give Code Red a 1-0 lead. It became 2-0 when a Wolfpack defender inadvertently headed a ball into her own team’s net.

In the second half, Wolfpack scored is only goal, but Code Red gained breathing room when Ecker brought the ball downfield and passed off to Kiley Godfrey-Cravens who drilled a shot into the net from the right side.

Under-10 Division

Kicking Tornadoes 4, Soccer Sisters 3

The Kicking Tornadoes rallied to score the final three goals to pull out the victory.

Katie Carter provided the margin of difference when she scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left in regulation.

A goal by Maddie Fox, followed by two goals by Devon Graber, allowed the Soccer Sisters to take a 3-1 lead.

Kendall Georgatsos had scored an early goal for the Tornadoes to pull her team into a 1-1 tie.

The Tornadoes began their comeback in the third quarter on a goal by Eli Usher, and Georgatsos tied the score with her second goal of the match.

Red Hot Spicy Chicks 0

The Soccer Sisters opened pool play with a shutout victory.

They first got on the scoreboard when Devon Graber scored off a pass from Jessyca Lackey. Later, Lackey broke away from the Spicy Chicks’ defense to score an unassisted goal.

Maddie Fox and Briana Kutinsky set up the next score, a goal in the third period by Dana Conlisk. Danielle Kutinsky dribbled her way through the Spicy Chicks defense to post the last goal of the match.

Alex Holloway and Krista Apardian combined to earn the shutout in the net.

Dolphins 2, Skittles 2

The two teams played on even terms and the match ended in a tie score.

The Sour Skittles struck first, but it took a rebound shot to give the squad a 1-0 lead. Dolphin keeper Ariel Thelander had blocked a kick by Emily Thiem, but Thiem’s Sour Skittles teammate Natalie Anzivino was there for the rebound shot, which she sent into the goal.

That turned out to be the only score by either team in the first half.

The Dolphins drew even in the third period when striker Diana Schwene scored off a throw-in by Jessica Johancsik, and they took a 2-1 lead when Hanna MacNew scored after a blocked shot by Johancsik.

Sour Skittles forward Amber Rodriguez scored a breakaway goal to make it a 2-2 match.

Under-12 Division

Looney Limes 2, Knockouts 2

A late goal by Nicole Brashers rallied the Knockouts into a tie against the Looney Limes.

The Knockouts scored first on a goal by Briana Montgomery goal, but the Looney Limes scored consecutive goals to take the lead.

Sophie King lobbed a pass to set up a goal by Makenna Neal, and Stephanie Imming scored an unassisted goal to give the Limes a 2-1 lead.

Brashears scored the tying goal off an assist from Lindsay Conlisk.

Double Trouble 3, Knockouts 1

Double Trouble overcame a 1-0 deficit by scoring the final three goals of the match.

Following a scoreless first half, the Knockouts took a 1-0 lead when Briana Montgomery scored on a play set up by sweeper Nicky Gonzalez and halfback Nicole Brashears.

Double Trouble answered with a goal by Erin Vogel, which tied the score.

A goal by Sally Calle gave Double Trouble the lead for good, and Vogel scored a late goal to ice the match.
