Costa Mesa man dies in car crash

A Costa Mesa man was killed late Tuesday when he was struck by an allegedly drunk driver, police said.
The man was driving a blue 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier and tried make a left turn from Fairview Road onto Paularino Avenue and was hit by a black sport-utility vehicle traveling north on Fairview at 7:19 p.m., police said.
The victim, who was 73 and whose name is not being released because his family has not been notified, was taken to Hoag Hospital where he died of his injuries, police said.
Police arrested the driver of the SUV, Pedro Lopez, 62, of Santa Ana, on suspicion of drunk driving.
Charges against Lopez had not been filed as of late Wednesday, said Orange County district attorney’s office spokesman Mark Macaulay.
