Reasons to oppose Poseidon plant

I have been reading the numerous articles and residents’ opinions with regards to the Poseidon project being planned for Huntington Beach. Here are some reasons why this project needs to stop and why to support recall efforts.

A few months ago an article stated how California water needs will increase based on projected (and let me emphasis projected) growth over a pretty lengthy span of time. Interestingly, the statement came from a Poseidon representative, not from our state representatives. Sounds like a sales pitch to me; how about you?

We have experienced many beach closures due to high bacteria levels from rain runoff and sometimes for unknown reasons. If we cannot swim in the ocean, then how can the Poseidon plant work?

The track record of Poseidon Inc. in Tampa, Fla., should be a clear representation of how poorly the project is designed and managed. Poseidon has been trying, unsuccessfully, to receive approval from other California sites.

Looking at the entire coast of California, why was the Huntington Beach site selected? Why are other coastal locations that have been approached by Poseidon hesitant?

We can all have more interesting questions, opinions and facts as to why the plant should or should not exist. However, in the best interest of the city of Huntington Beach, this project needs to be shelved. Our City Council really needs to move on to more productive items that benefit the city and residents. Our infrastructure needs an upgrade and maintenance is at a low point.
