Anteaters topped

The UC Irvine women’s soccer team lost to visiting Cal Poly San Luis

Obispo, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Big West Conference action.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, sophomore Makenzie Beahm cut the lead to 2-1

for the Anteaters (3-10-1, 0-3 in the Big West) in the 64th minute as

she took a corner kick from freshman teammate Kathleen Lemieux and

booted it in.

Cal Poly jumped out to the early lead when Becky Clark received a

corner kick from Sarah Squires and finished it off in the 17th minute

for a 1-0 advantage.

In the 45th minute, Heidi McQuitty headed in a pass from Alix

Cohen for a 2-0 Cal Poly lead.

Freshman keeper Rose Aguilera posted three saves for UCI while

keeper Liz Hill had two saves for the Mustangs.
