PANINI CAFE HOURS
People with late-night appetites would have three more hours each
night to grab a bite at Panini Mediterranean Cafe on MacArthur
Boulevard.
That’s if the commission agrees to extend the restaurant’s closing
time from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.
The city suggested the restaurant apply for the later hours after
learning people had been eating there after the scheduled closing
time.
The cafe will not be allowed to serve alcohol after 1:30 a.m.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Planning commission staff members recommended approving the later
hours for a one-year trial period. The commission pointing out that
it would be a safe option for people who want to eat after they leave
a nearby nightclub.
INDIAN RESTAURANT
A new restaurant, Saagar Fine Indian Cuisine, would open on
Martingale Way near John Wayne Airport, if the commission approves.
The restaurant site has been vacant for close to 10 years, since a
previous restaurant, Mermaids, was closed by the city because of
illegal activities.
The proprietor, Gurcharan Singh Sandher, also runs a restaurant in
Huntington Beach. The 7,072-square-foot Newport restaurant would be
open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and would serve alcohol as well as food.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The restaurant is not expected to worsen traffic in the area, so
planning staff members recommend approving the new restaurant.
MARINA APARTMENTS
If the commission approves, the 64 apartments at the Newport
Marina on Bayside Drive will be demolished and replaced with a
smaller gated community of 17 custom homes.
The community would have use of existing floating docks at the
site.
The planning commission would need to approve rezoning for the
site and grant a coastal residential development permit.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Staff members recommend approval of the new gated community.
