Mayor honors businessman

Newport Beach Mayor John Heffernan announced Wednesday that the city
has proclaimed Aug. 10, 2005, William D. Lusk Day, in honor of one of
the city’s most influential businessmen.
Heffernan made the proclamation at a reception for local
homebuilders at the Balboa Bay Club.
Lusk, a Newport Beach resident for 40 years, has served as
president of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, skipper of the
Commodores Club and director of Hoag Hospital’s 552 Club.
His family business, the Lusk Co., has built more than 3,500 homes
in Orange County.
Lusk also co-founded the Lusk Center for Real Estate Development
at USC and the Lusk Research Campus at Scripps Clinic in Torrey
Pines. In 1984, he was a Newport Beach citizen of the year.
