Beach Boys top bill at Let’s Do Launch

The Newport Beach Centennial Committee is scheduled to begin

selling tickets Monday for the Oct. 2 Let’s Do Launch beach party.

The Beach Boys have been booked to perform at the event, which is

set to open a yearlong celebration of Newport Beach’s 100th

anniversary. Tickets are $15 per person. Children younger than 3 will

be admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Newport Beach

Recreation Department at City Hall, Oasis Senior Center and on the

Internet at www.newportbeach100.com.

Bands to battle in Newport Beach

Local musicians will assemble Aug. 21 for a Battle of the Bands

contest as part of Sunday Fun-Day, a free event at Bonita Canyon

Sports Park in Newport Beach.

The winning band will be the opening act at Let’s Do Launch.

To qualify, entrants must submit an event application, a CD or

cassette with at least two songs, a band biography and a photo by

Aug. 5 to the Newport Beach Recreation and Senior Services Office,

3300 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach, CA, 92663.

At least one member of the band must reside in Orange County, and

all bands must have three or more members.
