REAP THE WILD WIND

As part of the Newport Beach Arts Commission’s “Concerts in the

Park” series, the Russian National Orchestra’s Wind Quintet is

scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Corona del Mar’s Grant

Howald Park.

Sergei Markov, the Russian National Orchestra’s chief executive

officer, will join the quintet onstage to narrate “Wolf Tracks,” a

contemporary update of the classic tale “Peter and the Wolf.”

This free outdoor performance marks the first appearance in

Southern California by the Russian National Orchestra. For more

DANCING BY THE STARS

A performance by Los Farruco, one of Spain’s premier dancing

families for the last half-century, will kick off the 2005 New World

Flamenco Festival at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Current performers

include La Farruca, who is the daughter of the troupe’s founder, her

17-year-old son and an ensemble of other dancers.

Los Farruco perform Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 6

p.m., with tickets priced from $36 to $42. The Flamenco Festival

continues through Aug. 14, with performances next week by Y Una

Batita de Cola and the Compania Antonio El Pipa.

SPLISH SPLASH, THEY’LL BE TAKING A BATH

The Costa Mesa Bark Park is holding its annual Bath’Stille Day Dog

Wash and Vendor Fair fundraiser on Saturday. Dogs can get a bath with

soap that will not hurt their eyes, their skin or the environment.

Volunteers dry the pups when finished. Many pet product vendors will

be on hand selling their wares. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
