Waldron scores for Mustangs

Jeff Waldron has been a three-sport star for Costa Mesa High since he

first arrived in the fall of 2001.

The recent graduate, who will attend Brigham Young University in

the fall, has been named the school’s male Athlete of the Year.

As a tight end for the football team, Waldron was named the Golden

West League Offensive Player of the Year as well as to the

Newport-Mesa Dream Team.

He made at least one catch in every game this season to stretch

his streak to 12 straight games with a reception dating back to the

2003 season. He finished his senior campaign with 42 receptions for

757 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

He was also a standout on defense at linebacker, as evidenced by

the fact he was named Newport-Mesa Defensive Player of the Year as a

junior and being selected first-team all-league.

Waldron was also named second-team All-CIF Southern Section

Division III-A and first-team all-league in basketball after he led

the Mustangs with a 7.6 rebounds per game average. He was second on

the squad with 8.8 points per game.

Mesa finished second in league in basketball and advanced to the

quarters of the CIF Division III-A playoffs. He was a first-team

all-league and Dream Team selection as a junior.

As an outfielder on the baseball team, Waldron was named

second-team all-league after fiishing fifth in the league with a .296

batting average. He was tied for third on the team with 11 RBIs and

was fourth with six stolen bases.

He was also named Costa Mesa’s male Student-Athlete of the Year

and was honored by the National Football Foundation and College Hall

of Fame for maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
