UPS delivery truck overturns; 3 injured
A UPS delivery truck overturned on East Coast Highway Wednesday
morning, injuring three people.
The accident happened just after 10 a.m. at East Coast Highway and
Pelican Point Drive in Newport Beach. The UPS truck rolled over on
top of a “small Mercedes-Benz,” Sgt. Bill Hartford said.
Three people at the scene were injured and two were taken to local
hospitals, Newport Beach fire spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz said. The
extent of their injuries was not released.
No citations were issued and police do not believe alcohol was a
factor, Hartford said. The accident is under investigation.
Fireworks concession goes up in smoke
A Costa Mesa fireworks stand went up in smoke early Tuesday
morning, but no explosives were inside at the time, fire officials
said.
Firefighters got the call that a stand was burning in the 200
block of Bristol Street just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, Costa Mesa fire
spokeswoman Barbara Marcosa said. Part of the structure and roof
burned in the fire, she said.
No fireworks were inside the stand at the time and no buildings
were threatened, she said.
Fireworks stands in Costa Mesa must close by 8 p.m. on July 4,
according to a city ordinance.
The stand was operated by an American Youth Soccer Organization
group.
