I believe Armando Ruiz should resign. Taking advantage of a loophole
to gain a larger retirement is one thing, I blame the state for that.
However, he purposely retired in October to deceive the voters.
I happen to know that the early retirement package at South Orange
County was for people retiring in June. Ruiz expressly asked for an
extension to October, claiming he didn’t want to leave the Coast
Community College Board with an empty seat for several months.
The reality was, he fully intended on rerunning for the Coast
Community College Board and wanted to do so as an incumbent. He knew
if he retired a few days before the election, it would be impossible
to change his status as an incumbent. If he retired in June from both
districts, he still would have received the higher salary but would
not have been listed as an incumbent on the ballot.
He was deceiving us then and is deceiving us now. He will do
anything to maintain his seat on the board.
If he was a decent person he would resign. Of course, if he was a
decent person, he wouldn’t have done what he’s done.

I was an instructor at Golden West College for 20 years and if you
want to know how the faculty feels about Ruiz, just ask the faculty
of either Orange Coast, Coastline or Golden West College.
I know him as the most self-serving person I’ve ever met and most
of them I think would agree. Yes, he should be encouraged to resign.
Imagine that behavior at the expense of students.

I definitely support the recall of Armando Ruiz. I think what he
did, even if technically correct, was absolutely morally and
politically indefensible. To take advantage of a loophole to double
your retirement salary when the state and even the retirement system
is under such pressure is absolutely indefensible.
We can’t have people with such scruples leading our educational
institutions.
He definitely should be recalled.

I support the recall of Armando Ruiz. His actions are
unconscionable. He lacks integrity and should not be allowed to
continue serving on the Coast Community College district Board of
Trustees.

I don’t know what is worse, Armando Ruiz’s lack of integrity or
lack of knowledge, when he states that his retirement isn’t costing
the community colleges any money.
The state pays him. After all these years as a trustee and
frequent flyer, did anyone inform him that community colleges get
their funding from the state, hence the taxpayers?
