Sage tops Oxford

The Sage Hill School boys golf team earned a 231-246 victory over
visiting Oxford Academy Tuesday in an Academy League opener at
Strawberry Farms Golf Club.
Junior Josh Chen shot 40 for Sage Hill (4-2, 1-0 in league),
earning medalist honors, while Rory Foubister (46), Will Rigby (48),
Geoffrey Grant (48) and John Neff (49) all tallied scores for the
Lightning.
Ryan Babbash shot 50 in the sixth spot for Sage on the par-36
course, as the two teams finished just before it started raining
heavily.
Oxford drops to 3-4, 0-1 in league. Sage visits Whitney at 3:15
p.m. Thursday at Los Amigos Golf Course.
Tough task for Newport
* The Newport Harbor High boys golf team faced a tough battle
Tuesday against Aliso Niguel at El Niguel Country Club in a Sea View
League match.
Not only were the Sailors playing in windy, wet and cold
conditions on Aliso Niguel’s home course, the Tars had to play
against arguably the top team in the county.
The Wolverines defeated Newport Harbor, 193-208, led by
co-medalists Kevin Irwin and Andrew Mahnke, who both shot 1-over par
37s.
Newport Harbor (4-4, 1-1 in league) was paced by seniors Davis
Pemstein (38) and Chris Willard (39). Seniors Brandon Sowers (43) and
Rhet Palmer (44) as well as sophomore Justin Morehead (44) also
posted scores for the Sailors.
Aliso Niguel improves to 10-0 and 2-0 in league.
Newport Harbor host El Toro at Santa Ana Country Club today at 3
p.m., weather permitting.
Westminster forfeits
* The Estancia High boys golf team earned a Golden West League
victory Tuesday after Westminster forfeited due to a lack of players.
