The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach recently named two of its
members as “Youths of the Year” for 2004.
Amy Congleton and Nour Vakhshoury were recognized during a dinner
presentation at the club’s annual awards night, which honors the
club’s Members of the Month.
Congleton -- a seventh-grader at Thurston Middle School -- has
been a club member since the age of seven.
Vakhshoury is a fifth-grader at Journey School in Aliso Viejo who
has been coming to the club for about three years.
Neither knew they would be honored during the suspenseful evening
event, which included an Italian dinner, said Joe Derichsweiler,
director of operations.
The two were selected from among the club’s Members of the Month
-- one to represent the age range from first to fifth grade, and one
from the sixth- to 12th-grade range.
“We want to congratulate Amy and Nour,” Kim Maxwell, executive
director of the club, said. “They are truly remarkable young people
who are making a positive difference at our club. We are very proud
of them and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to celebrate the
inspiration they personally bring to our club and our kids.”
