Newport girls capture second

The Newport Aquatic Center varsity girls eight-man rowing team A
finished in second place at the Redwood Shores regatta competition in
Northern California on Sunday .
All of the NAC teams consist of rowers from various Orange County
high schools. The girls team A is composed of Aly Raymer, Jacqueline
Van Andel, Christina Campbell, Sinead Maguire, Brooke Carroll,
Candace Ferguson, Nicole Anderson, Christina King and Ashley Kiley.
The varsity girls B team finished first, ahead of San Diego
Rower’s Club, while the girls junior varsity and lightweight
divisions also placed first.
The varsity boys team, consisting of James Monahan, Frank Lewis,
Blake Foster, Erik Oatman, Morgan Sabo, Ryan Grafft, Kean O’Shea,
Alex Powell and Ogi Zivojnovic, finished in second behind Pacific RC.
The junior varsity boys placed first and the varsity boys C team
finished third.
In outrigger competition:
* The NAC outrigger team members competed in one- and two-man
races from Newport Beach to Dana Point Saturday .
NAC’s Sam Couch finished in 12th place, while Jim Terrell (13th),
Scott Granger (16th), Cliff Meidly (47th) and Greg Vose (49th) all
placed for the men.
The two-man team of Meg Jones and Elaine Fiers finished 28th for
the women and Cathy Weinberg came in 73rd. Jimmy Spoto finished 74th
in the juniors division.
