UC Irvine 13th at USC

The UC Irvine men’s golf team finished 13th in the 15-team-Ashworth

invitational, hosted by USC, that concluded Tuesday at North Ranch

Country Club in Westlake Village.

Tennessee won the 54-hole tournament with a total of 852, BYU was

second with 854 and USC third at 861 in the 15-team field. UCI

finished with a three-round total of 894.

UCI freshman Garrett Sapp finished 17th at 4-over 217, shooting a

1-under 70 in the final round. Kenny Kim was 35th at 222 (74-74-74),

Jay Choe placed 51st at 227 (79-73-75), Brian Edick was 58th at 229

(77-79-73), and Will Park finished 64th at 232 (79-78-75).

Georgia Southern’s Aron Price was the medalist with a 10-under

total of 203 on the par-71 course.

UCI hosts the Anteater invitational at El Niguel Country Club in

Laguna Niguel March 14-15.

Several ‘Eaters shine

* TRACK AND FIELD: UC Irvine hammer thrower Michael Beerer posted

the third-best mark in Anteater history (190 feet, 3 inches) to

finish third in the Rossi relays at Claremont College Saturday.

Beerer, who threw more than six feet beyond his previous best,

placed fourth in the shot put at 46-0.

On the track, Ricky Barnes finished second in the 3,000 meters in

8 minutes, 32.58 seconds and Andrew Garratt was fifth in 8:52.05.

For the women, Marie Nguyen finished second in the 3,000 meters

(10:18.26) and Erinn Kim was fourth (10:26.20).

Jon Wratten was third in the high jump (6-8), while Patrick

Grogran (46-0) and Fred Lee (45-0 1/2 ) were third and fourth,

respectively, in the triple jump.

Ian Connell was fourth in the discus (152-1), Eric Nyberg was

fourth in the pole vault (14-5 1/4 ), Kenny Vinh was fifth in the

110-meter hurdles (14.94) and Mike Navarro was fifth in the long jump

(22-1 3/4 ) for the Anteaters.

The UCI track and field teams host the All-Cal Cup Saturday at

Anteater Stadium. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the first

running event slated for noon.
