Riptide take turkey title

The Pacific Coast girls under-12 Riptide softball team won the
championship game of the Southern California ASA Turkey tournament.
The 6-5 win added to the team’s streak, winning 17 of the last 20
games. The Riptide advanced through the tournament unbeaten and only
allowed eight runs in 28 innings, while scoring 29 runs.
The team defeated Tustin, 1-0, in the semifinal game with no
defensive errors.
In the final, after the Riptide went into a tiebreaker in the
eighth inning, Kira Mitani stepped up to the plate, slugged a
run-producing hit that scored Brookie Migliori for the win.
Kadee Malone had two home runs in the game, while Emma Zublin had
one. Elizabeth Cramer caught for the entire 28 innings, Mitani and
Mary Hamilton shared pitching duties and Jade Watts had numerous
hits.
Courtney Francis played at second base, while Shanequa Watts,
Jordan Kirsky, Maddy Mains, Tess Crane, Ashleigh Smith and Shari Mead
rounded out the rest of the team.
Ensign girls win title
* BASKETBALL: The Ensign Seabees seventh-grade girls basketball
team upset the Huntington Beach Sowers, 28-25, in the championship
game and season finale.
Ensign came out strong and held Sowers off, to finish an
incredible season.
Ensign is coached by Scott Cameron, and is led by Kaleigh
Gilchrist, Kaily Vonesh, Bonnie Sykes, Maiquel McLeish, Katelyn
Thompson, Coleen Mead, Emily Rosales, Valerie Kane, Lauren Chandler,
Summertime Sorensen, Kelly Heenan, Jessica Guzman, Lovelle Pulizzi,
Leslie Drewry and Charlotte Farrell.
Starbursts seize first
* SOCCER: The AYSO Region 120 girls under-12 Starbursts capped
their season with a 1-0 win in the championship game against the
Maroon Marauders Saturday.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, Starbursts’ Stephanie
Plascencia found an opening and drove the ball into the Marauders’
goal for the only score and the win.
Stephanie Rios, playing in goal for the Starbursts, saved several
shots and wound up with the shutout. Defenders Tiffany Le, Kylie
Carpenter and Holly Hawkins aided Rios to help preserve the win.
Gabby Suarez lead the Marauders with constant shots on Rios, while
Marauders’ goalie, Morgan Pautsch, saved shots by Starbursts’ Brenda
Perez and Kinsey Aherne.
Starbursts’ midfielders Olivia Harriman, Vanessa Dorado and Sarah
Snell pressed the Marauders’ defenders, and forwards Nichole Sanchez
and Meghan Quinn pressured the goal keeper.
Blue Babes victorious
* SOCCER: The AYSO Region 97 girls under-12 Blue Babes won the
championship game against the Purple Fanta in quadruple overtime
Saturday.
As regulation ended, the game was scoreless and the teams went
into a sudden death overtime. After the second sudden death overtime,
it came down to a shootout, but both teams scored three points.
Makena Owen, Alex Whiting and Jackie Cappellini scored for the
Babes. So it came down to a sudden death overtime, in which Shayanne
Usman won it for the Babes.
