Third-grade students from Mary Blanton’s class at El Morro Elementary
School wrote some letters on what they are thankful for.
I am thankful for many things. One thing I’m thankful for is (you
might be surprised but ... ) my chores my parents give me because
they are just trying to show me how to be a grown-up.
I am also thankful for doctors, police and all the armed forces
because they protect me from bad things. The doctor is there to help
you. Sure, sometimes it includes shots but it’s for your own health.
Another thing I’m thankful for is my family. Some kids might be
thinking, “You’re nuts my brother/sister is always mean to me!” But
if someone else were mean to you, you’re brother would be the first
one to stand up for you.
Also let us be thankful we have a house because we are not staying
on the beach or anything like that! So I say be thankful!
One more thing, these are just a few things to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my school and education because at school is
where I get smarter.
I’m also thankful that my grandma is still alive because she is my
only grandparent alive. I am thankful that I have a nice warm home to
sleep in. I’m also thankful for food because it keeps us alive and
some food is good for you. I am also thankful for our armed forces
because they keep us free and give up their lives to protect us.
My very most thankful thing is my parents because I would be
nothing, I mean nothing, without my parents.
John-Paul Wollam, 8
I am thankful for my parents because they’re nice. I am thankful
for my doctor because keeps me healthy. I am thankful for my food
because some people don’t have it. I am thankful for my chores
because they teach me discipline. I am thankful for my school because
I learn a lot there. I am thankful for my country because it’s done a
lot for me. I am thankful for my army because they gave up their
lives for me. I am thankful for my firemen because they saved a lot
of people’s lives. I am thankful for my freedom because some people
don’t have it. I am thankful for my religion because I can pray
anytime I want to. I am thankful for my parents’ rules because they
keep me safe. I am thankful for my family because they’ll always be
there for me.

I am thankful for my parents because they help me with mostly
everything I need help with.
I am also thankful for my food because other kids don’t have
anything to eat and they get sick. And I am also thankful for my
brother and my sister, who is always there for me when I need her. I
am thankful for a lot of things like my home, home sweet home,
because others don’t have a home and so they become homeless. I am
thankful for my school because I can see the ocean and other schools
can’t and I also like my school because I can learn good things.
That’s why I am thankful.

I am thankful for my parents because they take good care of me and
they love me. I am thankful for my doctors because they help me. They
have helped me by giving me a surgery on each one of my ears.
I am so happy that my mom is doing very well in school. I am glad
that I can go to church without anyone coming after me. I am thankful
for Mrs. Blanton because she is a great teacher and I am so glad she
is my teacher and I love her as a teacher.

because she is the best teacher in this school. I also want to be

police because they help up to be safe and go the right speed limit.

am really, really thankful for the doctors because they help you get
well sooner.

I am thankful for the lovely parents that care for me. I am also
thankful that the navy is out there fighting wars to keep me safe. I
am happy that cops are out on the streets checking speed limits so we
don’t have an accident and checking for robbers. I am glad that I
have a wonderful teacher that teaches me so much so I get smart when
I grow up.

I am thankful to my mom because she takes care of me, she teaches
me how to cook, she cooks good food like fruit. If I am sick she
takes me to the doctor. If I need something she gives it to me and
she takes me to the school for learning and to be smart, she teaches
me things, she gives me education, she gives me rules for when I grow
up and now. Rules like, do my bed, clean the house and cook.
I am thankful for my school, for my friends and for my mom who
gives me things, teaches me things, gives me rules and does good food
for me.
