Sophomore Melissa Zapiain became the Orange Coast College women’s
volleyball career kill leader on a night when the host Pirates posted
a 30-7, 30-20, 30-32, 30-8 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting
Santa Ana.
Zapiain fired her seventh kill of the match to wrap up game two,
which also vaulted her past Krystle Davis on the all-time list with
583 kills. After piling up 363 kills two seasons ago, Zapiain now
sits at 226 kills for the season and 589 for a career that should
take her well over 600 by the time the season ends.
Donka Drozd tallied 11 kills and Chontel Palomino added seven in
Wednesday’s win over the Dons (1-16, 0-12 in the OEC).
Orange Coast (13-4, 9-3) visits Cypress Friday at 7 p.m.
