UC Irvine to host day

of peace on Saturday

UC Irvine’s Citizen Peacebuilding Program will organize a one-day

event titled “Peace Wants You!” on Saturday at UCI.

The event, to take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Physical

Sciences Plaza southwest of Aldrich Park, will feature food, a peace

cafe, a labyrinth and a peace room with activities for adults and

children.

There will also be lectures, seminars and entertainment from

Vietnamese folk dancers and Japanese Taiko drumming to a performance

by Mimensis, UCI’s funk and fusion band.

Seven companies see serious growth spurts

Seven Newport-Mesa businesses made the list of Orange County’s 50

fastest-growing technology companies, professional services firm

Deloitte & Touche announced Monday. Deloitte & Touche compiled the

list based on companies’ percentage of revenue growth from 1999 to

2003.

The highest-ranking local business was Newport Beach-based

Universal Space Network Inc., which provides satellite tracking and

spacecraft management services. The aerospace company was ranked

fifth with 1,718% growth over the five-year period.

Other companies on the list were the TriZetto Group Inc., a

Newport Beach provider of technology for the health care industry;

Emulex Corp., a Costa Mesa firm that makes computer data storage and

networking equipment; Newport Beach’s Acacia Research Corp., a

developer of technology that distributes digital content; and

Ceradyne of Costa Mesa, a ceramics maker that has made body armor for

military use. The 50 high-growth companies were honored at a luncheon

Monday in Costa Mesa.

Gala to laud Corona

del Mar’s centennial

The “Black Tie Gala Event of the Century” will be held Oct. 15 in

commemoration of Corona del Mar’s centennial.

The black-tie dinner will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel.
