Police arrest man for starting scuffle
Costa Mesa Police arrested an Irvine man Thursday evening after an
altercation over some dropped clothes at Macy’s in South Coast Plaza.
Victor Manuel Cornelio, 47, was shopping in the department store
at about 5 p.m. Thursday, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said.
Cornelio confronted 29-year-old North Hills resident Warren DeLeon,
after he saw DeLeon kick some fallen clothes underneath a rack,
Carver said.
“They fell off the rack and instead of picking them up, he kicks
them under rack,” Carver said. “That offended Cornelio.”
DeLeon refused to pick up the clothes and went into the bathroom,
Carver said. When he came out, Cornelio reportedly confronted him
again, pushed him into a clothes rack and got him into a headlock,
Carver said.
Security officers pulled the men apart and DeLeon said he wanted
Cornelio arrested, Carver said. Cornelio was arrested on suspicion of
assault and battery and released on $500 bail, Carver said.
Big rig blocks freeway traffic
A jackknifed big rig on the San Diego Freeway near Harbor
Boulevard blocked lanes for two hours Friday morning.
The truck jackknifed just before 11:30 a.m. in the northbound
lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Stoney said. It
blocked the outside lanes, leaving only the carpool and one inside
lane open, Stoney said.
Traffic backed up for at least a mile following the accident, he
said. Two other vehicles were involved with only minor injuries
reported, he said.
