Bail hearing for Haidl postponed
An Orange County Superior Court judge on Tuesday put off the bail
hearing for the 19-year-old son of an Orange County assistant sheriff
facing a new statutory rape charge. Judge Francisco Briseno said he
would decide during the week of Aug. 9 whether or not to revoke Greg
Haidl’s bail. Greg Haidl, son of Orange County Assistant Sheriff Don
Haidl, Kyle Nachreiner and Keith Spann, both 19, are accused of
raping an unconscious 16-year-old girl in the assistant sheriff’s
Corona del Mar home.
Jurors hopelessly deadlocked during the first trial, forcing
Briseno to declare a mistrial.
The district attorney is expected to file new charges on Aug. 6
and decide whether prosecutors will try each of the defendants
separately this time.
Greg Haidl was arrested on a misdemeanor statutory rape charge on
July 15. Prosecutors say he had sex with a 16-year-old girl he met
during a party his father threw in his Spyglass Hill home the night
of the mistrial.
Greg Haidl is scheduled to be arraigned on the misdemeanor charge
on Aug. 12 at Harbor Justice Center in Laguna Niguel.
