St. John the Baptist cheer can’t be beat
Cheerleaders at St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School
completed an undefeated season and won the USA Junior Nationals.
They also won the King of the Bleachers Nationals, Converse State
Championship and the Cheerleaders of America West Coast Open. This is
the second year in a row that the squad went undefeated.
The team is made up of 34 girls in fifth through eighth grade. St.
John’s graduate Eddie Strachan, 21, coaches the team. His sister and
niece are on the team and his mother is a second-grade teacher at the
school.
Horticulture heaven next four Fridays
Orange Coast College’s ornamental horticulture department is
hosting a series of plant sales on four Friday mornings and
afternoons in April.
OCC’s horticulture department is growing a variety of plants for
spring gardens. Different varieties of tomatoes, several varieties of
both bell and chili peppers, herbs, annuals in pony packs, mixed
color baskets and many other plants will be available.
Proceeds from the sale will go to student scholarships, and to
invest in additional supplies and materials for OCC’s ornamental
horticulture department.
The sales are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 9, 16, 23
and 30 in the Horticulture Garden Nursery, on the western edge of the
campus, near the Technology Center. The most convenient public access
is from the campus parking lot off Adams Avenue.
Because crops will be maturing and ready for sale at different
times during the spring, a plant sale hotline has been established to
announce which plants will be available each Friday. The hotline
number is (714) 432-0202, ext. 26533.
