The Rotary Interact Club of Laguna Beach recently took its annual
international service trip to the Casa Hogar Orphanage in El Zorillo,
Mexico.
The 21 members and their adult supervisors, Chris Krach, Dave
Winckler, Don and Susan Campbell and Gil Thibault, took the trip on
March 13 and 14. It included a stop at the Gabriel House for severely
handicapped children and a visit to a special home for infants with
AIDS.
In addition to bringing fresh produce and fruit for the orphanage,
the students distributed a variety of food items -- student-made
blankets, stuffed toys, seeds for vegetable gardens and other items
needed by the orphanage and surrounding residents. The Interact
students also participated in day-long craft activities, sports and a
student-prepared dinner with the orphans.
The Interact Club is a service and social club for youth ages 14
to 18. Members are given a chance to develop a range of leadership
skills while learning the value of teamwork. Participants are also
able to complete their community service obligations for graduation.
For more information, call Chris Krach at (949) 497-7750 ext. 212
or Gil Thibault at 497-3331 ext. 203.
