Former Costa Mesa mayor is anything but ‘ignorant’
The Daily Pilot published a letter from Niall Huffman (“1901
provides much needed housing,” Mailbag, March 4) on Thursday that
condemned former Costa Mesa Mayor Sandra Genis for her “ignorant
comments” regarding moderate housing density in the city. Niall’s
comments were specifically concerning the 1901 Newport Boulevard
project.
Anyone who has ever had any dealings with Genis, either
professionally, politically or personally, has come away knowing they
had been with a superbly prepared, extremely intelligent lady.

Corona del Mar residents showed up to the polls
Out of almost 1,800 voters registered in our precinct, more than
600 exercised their right to vote in person on Tuesday. And more than
600 requested, and presumably used, their absentee ballots. Thus, I
take exception to your editorial statement (“Super victors deserve
kudos,” March 4) that Tuesday’s turnout was “woeful.”
If you are referring only to poll-processed voters (35% in our
precinct), then the logical next step is to make absentee voting
mandatory. If that were to happen, the resulting turnout would be 0%.
Perhaps that change would make for great copy for your reporters or
editorial writers, but it would be far from the truth.
I believe that you owe our voters, the volunteer poll workers --
who each put in a 15-hour day on Tuesday -- and the Orange County
Registrar of Voters staffers, which you so offhandedly slurred, both
the complete facts, and an apology.

Out with George W. Bush, in with Katrina Foley
Regarding Planning Commissioner Katrina Foley’s rebuttal “Vote in
discord with finely tuned arts program,” (Community Commentary March
2) regarding the Theater Arts District I say: Foley for President.
Or at least for a seat on the City Council. Costa Mesa lost big
when she was not elected. We need many more like her.
