This time, efforts are for Stafford

Lagunans never cease to amaze.
Once again, a community member is in need and, once again, many
have come out to help -- and it’s a fair bet they’re not done yet.
Dan Stafford needs a kidney. The 26-year-old Lagunan was diagnosed
with chronic kidney disease in November. He needs a kidney or he
faces a shortened life that will be filled with draining trips to the
dialysis machine and declining health.
Like the case of Joey Masella and groups like Laguna Shanti -- or
even the rocket ship -- Lagunans hear about a need and jump to it.
His name has appeared in the Coastline Pilot through the columns
of James Pribram and last week Glori Fickling mentioned the recent
fundraiser for Stafford’s potential donors. The fundraiser at Ocean
Brewery was a success with people from the community donating items
for an auction that raised about $22,000.
But you just can’t give enough ink in a situation like this.
Somehow Stafford has to get a kidney. Of course everyone who can
should mark the donor circle on their license and let family members
know of their wishes, but there is also the possibility that someone
could donate one of their kidneys to him. He has willing friends who
are still waiting to see if they are a match.
There’s plenty of hope, many well-wishers and now for some luck
and even more generosity.
