No reason to shy away from the day

As confident as you are about your single life in all its

independent glory, let’s be realistic. Nobody without a date should

spend Valentine’s Day alone. So celebrate being single -- with your

friends.

THE NON-DATE

* Feast on appetizers and beer at Gallaghers. Swap stories about

all of the horrible people you’ve dated.

* Send valentines to all your single friends and invite them over

for a party. Have each member bring a cute, single friend they’re not

dating. Play spin the bottle -- nothing wrong with leaving with a

date.

* Women, grab your girlfriends and check out the local performance

of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues, a play that truly celebrates

female power and strength. The production is produced and directed by

students at UC Irvine and proceeds will raise awareness for local

organizations working to end violence against women. Call (949)

824-6465 for tickets.

* Take the plunge and ask out that cute boy at the record store

you’ve been pining after for weeks. He’ll probably say yes. After

all, it’s Valentine’s Day.

* Men, gather a group of single friends and play tackle football

in the park.

* Spend the evening watching sports with the guys, just because

you can.
