Edison ascends to No. 1

Having opened the season with an eye-catching run, the Edison High
boys’ soccer team has caught the eyes of voters, who have voted the
Chargers No. 1 in the CIF-Southern Section Division I poll.
The office’s weekly rankings were released Monday.
The Chargers are one of three Sunset League teams to grace the top
10 list.
Other Sunset teams found in the rankings include Fountain Valley
at No. 5, and Esperanza at No. 7.
The Chargers have defeated both the Barons and Aztecs in league
play.
Edison’s girls’ soccer team also is highly ranked.
The Chargers held on to the No. 3 slot in the Division I poll,
which is again headed by San Clemente.
One of Edison’s key victories this season came against the
Tritons.
Aliso Niguel was ranked second in the poll.
In girls’ basketball, Golden West League leader Ocean View claimed
the No. 6 spot in the Division III-AA poll.
Sunset League leader Edison, meanwhile, came in at No. 8 in
Division II-AA.
In boys’ basketball, Ocean View, which tops the Golden West League
standings, again was ranked third in a poll headed by No. 1 Santa
Margarita.
Marina received votes in the Division I-A poll but just missed a
top 10 spot.
In girls’ water polo, Marina was ranked 10th in the Division I
poll.
