Hit-and-run suspect sought
Huntington Beach police are looking for a driver suspected of
striking and killing a Fountain Valley man and then fleeing the
scene.
James Litwicki, 59, was seen injured east of Magnolia Avenue,
south of the San Diego Freeway at about 8:30 a.m. Jan. 18. Police
believe he was struck that morning or at night on Jan. 17.
Fountain Valley Police responded to a medical aid call and
determined that Litwicki was a hit-and-run victim based on the nature
of his injuries, as well as on “the fact that [Litwicki’s] shoes were
out in the street in a manner consistent with someone who’s basically
hit so hard he’s knocked out of his shoes,” Fountain Valley Police
Sgt. Kevin Thomas said.
Litwicki suffered a head injury, a broken pelvis and hypothermia,
police said. He was transferred to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he
died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The investigation was transferred to Huntington Beach Police after
investigators determined that the crash occurred within Huntington
Beach city limits. Investigators have no suspect or vehicle
descriptions. Anyone who may have seen the collision can call Traffic
Investigator Bob Barr at (714) 536-5666.
Shooting suspect
is in custody
Huntington Beach Police have arrested a suspect after a car-to-car
shooting on Sunday afternoon.
Frederico Rosas, 21, a Huntington Beach resident, was arrested
Monday after a foot chase near Oak View Elementary School.
Police believe the shooting occurred near the intersection of
Goldenwest Street and Warner Avenue at about 3:20 p.m. A white
Lincoln Town Car pulled up next to Maximo Tiasela, 21, a Huntington
Beach resident driving a green Oldsmobile Cutlass, and the driver of
the Lincoln shot Tiasela, police said.
The shots struck Tiasela’s car and he escaped the scene uninjured,
then called police. Police set up a surveillance of Rosas’ residence
in the 8100 block of Slater Avenue based on information provided by
Tiasela, police said.
“The victim identified suspect Rosas as the person who had fired
at him,” Lt. Ed Deuel said.
Police spotted Rosas near his residence on Monday. He fled his
vehicle after officers tried to stop him, police said.
Rosas was booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and
held at Huntington Beach City Jail.
Police are still investigating a motive for the shooting.
Resident robbed
in his residence
A man was tied up and robbed in his own home on Sunday by three
men who are believed to be on the loose, Huntington Beach police
said.
At about 11:55 p.m., Dennis Harrington, 51, a Huntington Beach
resident, was reportedly hit over the head with an unknown object and
tied up by three men who then ransacked his residence in the 1400
block of Delaware Street.
Police don’t know how the men entered the location or what was
stolen.
