The Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. will hold a Meet the Mayor
function on Sunday.
Residents are invited to meet Mayor Cheryl Kinsman from 4 to 5
p.m. at the home of Chris and Dinah Brazelton, 2891 Chateau Way.
Light refreshments will be served.
The Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. has been encouraging
Laguna residents to view the staking and construction at the north
end of Alta Laguna Boulevard and express any concerns to the Design
Review Board and the City Council.
The neighborhood association board has continued its efforts to
remind everyone to be careful driving in the neighborhood,
particularly when children are starting or leaving school. The board
encourages those who witness speeding or dangerous driving to call
the Laguna Beach police.

Time for the blessing of the pets
The Neighborhood Congregational Church will host the blessing of
the pets from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

South Coast Medical Center offers lectures
A free lecture and luncheon on movement disorders will take place
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at South Coast Medical Center.
Medical experts will discuss symptoms of Parkinson’s, essential
tremor, dystonia and other disorders characterized by involuntary
muscle contractions or shaking movements.
Reservations are required.
From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 17, there will be a free lecture titled
“Are You a Candidate for Bariatric Surgery?”
Bariatric surgery is a weight loss treatment option for people at
least 80 pounds overweight. .
A free seminar on preventing joint pain will be held from 12:30 to
1:30 p.m. Feb. 20.
Orthopedic Surgeon Alexander Rosenstein will discuss surgical and
nonsurgical treatment options, as well as tips on how to prevent
joint pain.
The events will be at the community room at the hospital, 31872 S.
Coast Highway.

Woman’s Club seeking artists
The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach is accepting applications from
Laguna Beach women artists for the third annual art sale and auction.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 12.
Those interested should call (949) 494-0233. The art sale and
auction will be March 20 and 21.
The exhibit space is free but limited. Exhibiting artists will be
asked to donate one piece for the art auction. Proceeds will benefit
the Children’s Art Instruction program and the Woman’s Club building
fund.
League of Women Voters to hold forum
The League of Women Voters Issue Forum will include discussions on
“Taking Government Back: Initiative, Referendum and Recall -- Good or
Bad?”
Three experts will discuss the topic from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 31
at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Admission is
free.
Laguna’s Assemblyman Tom Harmon, UC Irvine professor Mark Petracca
and journalist Martin Wisckol will debate the issue.

Canyon Conservancy to hold monthly meeting
The Laguna Canyon Conservancy will hold its next meeting on Feb.
2. Topics for discussion are the city budget and the fire-safe,
water-wise garden.
Mayor Cheryl Kinsman will talk about the city budget and the
effect that recent decisions in Sacramento will have on city
services.
Then, Renae Hinchey, general manager of the Laguna Beach County
Water District, will give a presentation on the fire-safe and
water-wise demonstration garden. Her presentation will include a
six-minute video.
The Laguna Canyon Conservancy monthly dinner meetings are held at
Tivoli Terrace on the Festival grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.
The no-host bar will open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at
about 6:45 p.m.
Dinner tickets for members are $10, $15 for nonmembers and may be
paid at the door with reservations. To reserve tickets, call Ed or
