Wildcats keep Pirates at bay, 43-12

Kelly Heenan scored 20 points while Kathleen Etuale added 10 to pace
the Wildcats to a 43-14 victory over the Pirates in recent
Newport-Mesa National Junior Basketball girls fifth-and sixth-grade
action.
In other games:
* Lakers 43, Mavericks 24:
Lindsey Anderson scored 21 points for the Lakers while LiAnne
Sarisuk added 12. Samantha Archie tallied in six points.
Emily Rosales led the Mavericks with 10 points.
* Shock 37, Globetrotters 16:
Kadee Malone led the Shock with 12 points while Saylor Schroff
added eight. Silvie Reynolds scored seven points.
Kassie Stratton paced the Globetrotters with eight points.
In girls third- and fourth-grade action:
* Raptors 21, Celtics 10:
Diana Murphy led the Raptors with nine points followed by eight
from Elissa Schilling. Shannon Griffin led the Celtics with seven
points.
* Gold Rush 18, Liquidators 14:
The Gold Rush sent the Liquidators to their first loss of the
season.
Marissa Hergott and Nikki Borchard led the Gold Rush scoring with
seven points each while Mary McKennon tallied four points with strong
rebounding and defense.
Brooke Migliori led the Liquidators with six points followed by
four from Asia Andry.
* Sisters of Hoop 31, Sparks 16:
Ava Soleimany scored a season-high 21 points to pace the Sisters
of Hoop.
Niki Zak scored six points and added strong defense while Sara
Silverman tallied three points.
Rikki Archie led the Sparks with seven points while Kasey Thompson
(five points) and Nicole Hickey (three points) contributed.
* Razz Ma Tazz 20, Trojans 13:
The Razz Ma Tazz got their first victory of the season.
Natalie Barbaresi and Mae-Ling Choquette each scored five points
to lead the Razz Ma Tazz. Seneca Jakosky and McKenzie Dalton each
added three points.
Gabby Carpenter and Claire McKinnon each scored four points to
lead the Trojans with Alexa Boyer adding three points.
In the first- and second-grade Boys & Girls Club of Costa Mesa
action:
* Pistons 8, Lakers 6:
The Pistons improved to 2-0 with the come-from-behind victory.
The Lakers led, 6-0, at the end of the third quarter, but the
Pistons got baskets from John Mooers, David Schaffer and Landon
Knight, who hit two 10-footers to finally give the Pistons a lead
they wouldn’t relinquish.
Knight led the Pistons with four points followed by two each from
Schaffer and Mooers. Knight added six rebounds while Luke Shea and
William Davenport each tallied three.
Andy Gutieres, Davenport and Tommy Balding led a defensive effort
that held the Lakers.
