Christmas Happenings

JIM DE BOOM

The annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk will be from 11 a.m. to 4

p.m. Sunday along Pacific Coast Highway. Beautifully decorated

stores, Christmas carolers, Santa, hot apple cider, hot dogs and more

will make it a great family outing. Join the fun, find some Christmas

gift bargains and see your friends while casually strolling down

Pacific Coast Highway.

CHRISTMAS EVE AT ROCKHARBOR

For six years, ROCKharbor Church in Costa Mesa has invited the

community to an original, artistic celebration of the historic events

of Christmas, and this year is no exception, Alissa Carlson said.

Hundreds of volunteers will host an original production: “Christmas

Eve at ROCKharbor: A Creative Celebration of the Birth of the King.”

Innovatively blending drama, dance, music, visual art and

technology, the celebration links the 2,000-year-old Christmas story

to situations and relationships people experience daily in today’s

world. The familiar narrative will be read aloud in eight sections

and augmented with artistic presentations of each section.

“The Christmas account is simple, timeless, and rich in

significance -- not just for this season, but for our everyday

lives,” said Chad Halliburton, ROCKharbor’s director of creative arts

and celebration. “Our desire is to use artistic, creative means to

help people encounter the relevant truths of Christmas in

life-changing ways they perhaps never have before.”

The Dec. 24 free performances will be presented at Mariners

Christian School in Costa Mesa at noon and 4, 6 and 8 p.m. A special

program will be presented for children kindergarten-age and younger

at noon and 4 and 6 p.m. For more information, contact Carlson at

(949) 548-2600, ext. 18 or at [email protected].

SHARKY’S OPENING

The grand opening of Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill in Newport

Coast to benefit Newport Coast Cares was postponed for a couple of

weeks. It has been rescheduled for today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The restaurant, at 21119 Newport Coast Drive in the Newport Coast

Shopping Center, is donating the proceeds to support Mexican

orphanage Hacienda de la Inmaculada in Tijuana. The cost is $10 for

adults and $5 for children. For more information, call (949)

433-7879.

KEEP THE BEAST RUNNING

The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club is offering a free seminar for the

public at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 titled “Diesel Engines: Keeping the

‘Beast’ Running.”

Dan Gribble from Boatswains Locker will give the seminar, which

will focus on the dos and don’ts of how to take care of your engine.

For example, running your engine to charge your batteries at a

mooring is a “don’t,” Gribble said, and he’ll teach you why. Gribble

will cover emergency repairs and much more.

For more information, contact Jay Carson at [email protected].

WORTH REPEATING

From Thought for the Day provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport

Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council:

“You don’t get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you

bring to the hour.”
